Twilight Princess Zelda

Twilight Princess Zelda was the most ambitious project of 2017. I spent about 3 months constructing the entire outfit and debuted it at Katsucon that year. This is entirely handmade and features a Bow of Light made by Volpin Props.

Materials

In making this costume, I gravitated toward materials that would reflect Zelda’s status as royalty. I chose various silks for most part of the main gown and gloves. The gloves feature stretch vinyl applique with metallic finishes.

Most of the accessories are made out of cast resin, based on my original sculpts. I worked with Monster Clay to create and refine the basic forms, then molded and cast them to produce lightweight, durable plastic versions. This was my chosen technique for the crown, necklace, and belt.

The pauldrons and hair piece are made from tooled leather. This was one of my more ambitious early tooling projects.

Patterns

For the base of Zelda’s dress, I used Simplicity 8113. This is designed to mimic the general shape of Twilight Princess Zelda, but all of the details and accessories are different.

I made all my own templates for Zelda’s accessories and applique. This includes 3D pieces such as the crown, pauldrons, hair piece, and belt, as well as the flat designs all over her fabric pieces. All of my templates are available in my store. If you’re using my cosplay as a reference for your own, please consider supporting my tutorials and teaching by purchasing a set!
